Spontaneous, nontraumatic subperiosteal hematomas are rare and often require emergent decompression to preserve visual acuity. They were reported in the setting of systemic diseases associated with bleeding diatheses, acute sinusitis, and rarely after sudden elevations of intracranial venous pressure.
