Extensive Cerebral Necrosis Secondary to Cronobacter sakazakii Meningoencephalitis

Cronobacter sakazakii is a rare but virulent pathogen that predominantly affects neonates and was previously associated with transmission by contaminated infant formula. The Cronobacter species are notable for their tendency to infect the central nervous system and their propensity for necrotizing infections. We reported imaging findings from a case of C. sakazakii meningitis in a preterm infant that resulted in near-complete necrosis of the cerebral hemispheres.
