Frontal Sinus Meningoencephalocele with Extension through the Nasal Drainage Pathway and into the Nasopharynx

Meningoencephaloceles that extend through the base of the skull and facial bones are well-described abnormalities. However, meningoencephaloceles that extend through a defect in the fontal sinus are rare and not well documented in the literature. Initially mistaken as a sinonasal polyp, and almost treated as such, we report a case of a meningoencephalocele that was herniating through the frontal sinus and into the nasopharynx. Recognition of this unusual disease process is essential for proper patient care.
