Spontaneous Bilateral Subperiosteal Orbital Hematomas in the Setting of Increased Transvenous Pressure
Spontaneous, nontraumatic subperiosteal hematomas are rare and often require emergent decompression to preserve visual acuity. They were reported in the setting of systemic diseases associated with bleeding diatheses, acute sinusitis, and rarely after sudden elevations of intracranial
venous pressure. We presented a rare, but well-established complication of acute increased intracranial venous pressure. It is critical that the clinician and radiologist be aware of this entity to provide a rapid diagnosis and treatment.
