Free Content Masses in the Retropharyngeal Space: Key Concepts on Multiplanar CT and MR Imaging

The differential diagnoses for a mass in the RPS include malignant tumors, benign tumors, and non-neoplastic processes. In the era of multidetector CT and MR imaging, the use of sagittal and coronal images can be helpful in characterizing pathology and delineating the extent of disease. We present 5 key concepts for evaluating RPS masses by using multiplanar imaging. These concepts will help the radiologist provide a clinically useful differential diagnosis for masses in the RPS.
