Free Content Altered CSF Flow Due to Spinal Arachnoid Membrane Pathology

We described the normal anatomy of the spinal arachnoid membrane as it relates to the development of different pathologies (ie, arachnoid webs and/or septations, arachnoid cysts, and syringomyelia). This image-rich article illustrated this spectrum of imaging findings through multiple modalities, particularly those that provide functional information. We also discussed the possible role of arachnoid webs in the development of spinal cord pathologies, for example, syringomyelia formation.

Learning Objective: Describe the arachnoid pathologies that cause CSF flow abnormalities that can lead to the formation of syringomyelia.

Keywords: AC = arachnoid cyst; CSF = cerebrospinal fluid; ISF = interstitial fluid
