Neural Nexus: A Radiologic Review of Relevant Anatomy and Pathology of the Pterygopalatine Fossa

The pterygopalatine fossa is an important fat-containing structure situated within the deep portion of the face. Multiple nerves and vessels course through it, which provides a potential route of spread for neoplasm and infection. This review provided an overview of the anatomy, imaging considerations, and important pathologies of the pterygopalatine fossa. Key imaging features on CT and MR imaging were presented with illustrative example cases.
